The Telangana High Court on Tuesday cancelled the Group-1 Mains results and directed the Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) to manually re-evaluate the answer scripts and declare fresh results within eight weeks. The court warned that failure to comply could lead to the scrapping of the entire exam.
Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao, disposing of a batch of writ petitions challenging the evaluation process, ordered that the re-evaluation should follow the moderation method, citing the precedent set in Sanjay Singh and another versus Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. “The bench would not hesitate to cancel the entire Group-I exam conducted by the TGPSC if its orders were not complied with,” the judge said.
The court instructed that the results from the re-evaluation should be used to fill the 563 vacancies notified by TGPSC. In case the re-evaluation could not be completed, the Commission must conduct the entire Group-1 Mains examination afresh within eight months.
Nine writ petitions were filed by candidates who appeared for the exam, questioning the criteria used for evaluation. Petitioners alleged that TGPSC engaged evaluators unfamiliar with Telangana’s history and culture, causing “irreparable damage to the candidates from a Telugu media background.”

The judge set aside the final marks list announced by TGPSC on March 10, 2025, as well as the general ranking published on March 30, 2025.
The recruitment for 563 Group-1 vacancies had been put on hold in April 2025 following petitions highlighting alleged irregularities, including the use of non-Telugu evaluators for Telugu-medium papers.
