In the world of culinary experimentation, chefs and home cooks often turn to unconventional methods and kitchen “hacks”, hoping to achieve unique results or streamline the cooking process. For example, shaking garlic cloves in a jar to quickly peel them is a time-saving trick beloved by many home cooks. Another favourite hack is using a bottle as a rolling pin to make rotis. However, not all kitchen experiments are well-received. Case in point – this viral video that shows a man making mashed potatoes in a dirty mop bucket! This unconventional approach has understandably disgusted the internet, with many calling it “awful” and “cringe”.

In the video, a man prepares mashed potatoes in a shocking way. He uses a dirty mop bucket that still has a mop inside. Removing the mop, he pours boiled potatoes into the wringer part of the bucket, normally used to squeeze water from mops. The potatoes get mashed as they fall into the bucket. After scraping out the mashed potatoes with a spoon, he adds butter, salt and milk, then uses a potato masher to blend everything together properly. Finally, he scoops the mashed potatoes onto a plate, garnishes them, and eats them. The caption of the video read, “How to make mashed potatoes easy and fast.”
