Ashish Kumar Singhal, a resident of Jaipur, has conquered two of the country’s most challenging exams. First, he passed the JEE exam to gain admission to IIT, and later he achieved his dream of a government job by passing the UPSC exam. It took him several years to clear the Civil Services Exam, but he is now an IAS officer. Ashish Kumar Singhal’s journey to UPSC success is quite fascinating. Known for his academic brilliance, he was also an IIT topper. Despite this, he faced repeated failures in the civil service examination. People began to doubt his suitability for the exam, but Ashish remained undeterred. He was resolute in his goal to crack the UPSC exam and eventually succeeded.
Ashish studied at IIT Kharagpur, where he excelled as a gold medalist, placing him among the top students. He also completed an MTech in Industrial Management. Following his studies, he worked for a year in a company in Gurugram, Haryana. Despite his well-paid job, he decided to leave and return to Jaipur to prepare for the UPSC exam. Rather than joining a coaching institute, Ashish chose to prepare for the country’s toughest exam from home.
Ashish’s father, Ramesh Chandra Agarwal, was a government teacher, and his mother, Sudha Agarwal, is a homemaker. In his first attempt at the UPSC exam in 2019, Ashish failed the mains exam. In 2020, he couldn’t clear the prelims. In 2021, he failed the mains again. By this time, his family and friends had started to criticise and taunt him, believing that the civil services were not the right path for him. Despite this, Ashish did not give up. With the unwavering support of his parents, he took the exam again in 2022, but unfortunately, he failed in the prelims once more.
IAS officer Ashish Kumar Singhal carefully analysed his mistakes after his four failed attempts. He acknowledges that in 2019, he focused on preparing for the prelims but neglected the mains. In 2020, his preparation was still insufficient. In 2021, he missed the UPSC mains cutoff by a mere 20 marks. That year, his sister’s wedding occurred just 15 days before the exam, and he was occupied with the event. His failure in the 2022 attempt left him very disappointed. That is why in UPSC exam 2023, he learned from all his mistakes so far and doubled his focus on NCERT and syllabus revision. In this way, he passed the UPSC Civil Service Exam in 2023 with 8th rank and became a government officer.
